Senior Food Markets

Most of the seniors we assist live on less than $900 a month!  Our Free Groceries for Seniors program helps stretch household budgets so there is enough quality food to eat everyday.

New Mexico is one of the worst states in the nation for senior hunger and for senior malnutrition. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, one out of every seven Bernalillo County seniors live below the poverty level. Silver Horizons’ Free Groceries for Seniors program provides free groceries to almost 3,500 seniors each month, and to nearly 1,300 grandchildren many of these seniors are raising. Today, we offer drive-up/pickup opportunities where:

  • pre-packed food bags are loaded into a senior’s vehicle without direct person-to-person contact

  • bread, fresh produce, frozen foods and pet food are included

  • seniors do not have to leave their vehicles.

Our Free Groceries for Seniors program helps keep nutritious foods available to low-income seniors who must make the choice between buying groceries, paying their utility bills, paying for necessary medications, or covering other life expenses. At Silver Horizons, we believe our aging and elderly citizens in New Mexico shouldn’t have to make that choice.

If you or a senior you know is in need of food, please call us at 505-884-3881 or email
